Welcome to Term 2!
It's been a while since this blog has been updated.
We celebrated the last day of Term 1 with our Prep Breakfast. Lots of parents and friends came and helped serve the breakfast for us. We loved coming to school in our pyjamas and were really happy that lots of parents came in their pjs too. A huge thank you to all of the parents for their help for during Term 1.
We are well and truely immersed in our Fairy Tale Theme. We are lucky enough to have Bennetts the Builder. He has enjoyed making us some pig houses, a troll bridge, wands and gingerbread men. What fun we have had decorating them!! Our pig houses have even featured in the newsletter. We are looking forward to our excursion to Anakie Fairy Park on May 28.
We are also planning a Fairy Tale Ball for the last day of Term 2. It is still in the planning stages and we will give you more information about this in the coming weeks.
We are also hoping to have parents come to school during the last week of term and read their favourite Fairy Tale to their child's class. Hope you are able to assist us with this.
We hope to include photos in the next blog. Stay tuned!

Week 4 and 5 in PREP O
How time flies when you are having fun. I can’t believe it’s Week 4 already. (Now week 5)We are very busy learning in the classroom and playing outside. On Monday we go to Music and Sport. On Tuesday we got to Italian. Thursday is our Library Day
SCHOOL PHOTOS THIS MONDAY!!!!
Make sure you are on time and looking your very best for school photos this Monday. It will be a very busy day with photos and an Indoor Assembly as well.
Responding with Wonderment and Awe – Term 1 Inquiry Unit
We will be starting our Inquiry Unit ‘Responding with Wonderment and Awe’ at the end of this week which will take us through to the end of term. During this unit the students will be able to observe and explore many science activities to learn more about how things might work, the world we live in and trying new things.
Some things they may explore are floating and sinking, yabbies, cars and ramps, juggling with scarves, musical instruments and shaving cream. It is essential that they have their art smock (labelled clearly with their name) so they may participate in all of the activities.
PMP
PMP (Perceptual Motor Program) provides activities designed to improve children’s perceptual awareness through motor skills. It enables children to become more efficient users of their bodies and it enhances their learning readiness. Activities include body awareness, eye/hand, eye/foot co-ordination, balance and ball skills.
We will be running activities from this program on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings until the end of term. A huge thank you to all of the parents who have volunteered their time to help us run this, it is only with your help that it can work.
Library
We have been going to the library on Thursday after lunch to read and borrow books. If you haven’t brought your library bag to school yet, remember to bring it for Thursday so you can borrow a book to take home.
Home Reading
Each child now has their Home Reading bag. They are a bright gold yellow and have reading record books inside (the Yellow Book). Please keep a daily record of your child’s reading in the Yellow Book. There are instructions on how to fill it in on the first few pages of the book. Please make sure you write in the date and title of the book every day.
Fruitilicious Fridays
The school is providing fruit for the Preps to eat on Fridays as part of our Fruitilicious Friday program. A different fruit is provided each week to encourage children to taste and enjoy a range of this healthy snack. (I hear we are having nectarines) This program will run for the first half of the year. So far we have tasted apples and bananas.
Fruit or Vegetables in the classroom
Children are allowed to eat fresh RAW fruit and vegetables at anytime in class. Please ensure your child has some of this brain food with them everyday.
Water bottles
Please ensure your child brings a named water bottle to school each day so that they can have a drink in class throughout the day.
Butterflies
Our caterpillars are growing bigger by the day and we will soon put some photos up for you to see. They are quickly munching their way through all of the lemon tree leaves Miss Box bring to school for them.
The caterpillars were black, brown and white when they were smaller but they are now green and HUGE! We’re watching to see any changes. They are growing very quickly – almost 5cm long already! I am baby sitting over the weekend so I’m hoping Basil the naughty cat does not show any interest in them!!!!!
UPDATE !!!!!! We had a metamorphosis over the weekend. We now have chrysalis. We are wondering if it will take 4 weeks before the butterflies appear and how they will grow and get out.
Notices
We’re still waiting for some notices to be returned
Please return notices to the classroom teacher as soon as possible for:
• Parent Helper Term 1 form
• Permission form for child’s image to appear in the newsletter, website or class blog
• Class Contact list
• School photo order form
• Religious Education permission form, please note that if a note is not returned asking for an exclusion your child will attend the R.E. session
Hope you have a great week!

This Week in Prep O
Welcome to Our Blog
Home Share Books
This week all the children were very excited to bring home their first home share book. The READ It book inside the yellow bag is our record of how many nights are read. (Thankyou to all the parents who have included positive and encouraging comments). Please spend some time reading through the excellent advice and tips in this book. Our routines are becoming more consistent and the children have settled really well to achieving them each day. All the children seem to manage the beginning of the week well with ALL children finding the latter part of the week more difficult. Together we will ensure that the children make the happy transition to being a PPP – Positive Prep Person!!!!!!!!!!
Pick Up
As mentioned to those parents waiting outside last Friday, we would like to have parents wait outside (off the steps) to collect their children. During the last 10 minutes of the day we have announcements and children do need to focus on these plus our pack up routines. Thank you for your support with this.

School Begins for the class of 2010
Hi Everyone
Welcome to the first days in Prep O. We began today with all our 14 children happy and smiling to spend their first half day at school. I have taught Prep for 8 years previously and enjoyed immensely my return to this important part of our schooling. All children managed the challenges presented and are all promising to return tomorrow.
Thanks Everyone
